Minutes from the Last Meeting

OCR MEETING MAY 10, 2008

MINUTES

·        Meeting Called to Order

o       Attending Members: Judith, Barb, Vicky, Toni, Jill, and Rebecca

·        Approved Minutes from last meeting of April 5, 2008.

·        Treasury Report provided by Terry and read by Judith.

o       Discussion on the final charges from the Ball.

§         Agreed that replenishing our funds is our highest priority.

§         Agreed $100 of $400 raised from the Quilt raffle should be used to pay the expenses to Valerie for the materials for the Quilt.

§         Approximate final cost of the ball was $2400.

·        NEW BUSINESS

o       Discussion on if and when to hold the next ball.

§         Membership voted and agreed to plan for and hold the next ball in 2010, thus skipping 2009.  This will give us time to replenish our budget through various fund raisers and also us to focus our attention on other worthy projects.

o       Discussion on our Tea Party for 2009.

§         Membership voted and agreed to plan for and hold a Tea Party in 2009.

·        The Tea Party will be renamed to a Garden Party.

·        The Tea Party will be held at a park location such as Delwood Woods or other suitable location.  We will investigate various locations through the summer.

·        Judith will alert Valerie P. who was not present at the meeting to the change of venues regarding the Tea Party next year.

o       New Project Proposal submitted by Barbara Blair to raise money for a headstone for one of the Confederate Soldiers at Rosehill cemetery in Chicago.

§         Membership agreed that this would be a good idea.

o       Re-open the Illinois Civil War License Plate idea originally proposed by Rebecca last year.

§         Rebecca will work with her congressman to initiate the legislation once the OCR has collected names on a petition requesting such a plate.  Rebecca estimates we need to have 5000 names to have a chance at getting a license plate approved.

§         Rebecca will lead the efforts to create some sample artwork for the proposed license plate.

§         The membership will circulate the petition at various Civil War events over the summer to raise the 5000 names necessary.

o       Ideas for Fundraisers

§         Make a small Quilt or knit Shawls for a Raffle.

§         Sew a period Correct Dress for an Ebay Auction.

·        Barb has a dress she is willing to donate to this cause.

·        Discussed the inclusion of underpinnings, not yet decided.

·        The membership feels that we may be able to raise significant dollars with this idea in the neighborhood of $800 to $1000.

·        Meeting closed by motions by Rebecca and Vicky to end the meeting with approval of the membership.
